Daughter of Samuel and Lucretia (Clayton) Atchison
Married first, David Bailey on Oct, 19, 1857 in Bath Co., Kentucky.
Their children included: Thomas Jefferson, William Warren, Charles Robert, Mary Ella/Ellen,Elizabeth Belle (Spotts), Lulie/Lula, Edward David, and Ida.
According to newspaper articles, David was murdered Feb. 1st/2nd, 1872 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Kentucky.
Unable to care for so many children, Malissa kept the two older boys and baby with her and placed the younger children in the Masonic Widows and Orphans home in Jefferson Co, Kentucky. Mary Ellen, Elizabeth Belle, and Lula can be found in the 1880 census living in the home. It was said that Edward David died in 1874 from a fire at the Mason home. It is likely that Mallissa kept in touch with her children in the Masons home as several children are buried in Lees Summit cemetery and settled near her in Jackson Co., Missouri.
After David's death in Bath Co., Kentucky in 1872, Malissa married John Q. Anderson and they later settled in Missouri.
Daughter Mary E. Bailey never married.
Daughter Elizabeth Belle married J. Spotts
