Patrick J. Casey, 55, veteran member of the Leominster police department, died this morning at his home, 18 Orchard Street, following an illness of several weeks. He was born in Rutland, Vermont. "Pat" Casey was widely known in police circles throughout this section of the state. he was a familiar figure on the streets of Leominster. For years he patrolled Monument square at night. At various other times in his police career he worked efficiently as an acting inspector in the department. He was appointed patrolman in the department in May 1916 by the late Henry F. Sawtelle, Leominster's first mayor.
Mr. Casey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Isabel (Anglim) Casey; three brothers, James of Hartford, Conn., John and Clarence Casey of New York and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Tuohy and the Misses Nellie and Marie Casey all of Astoria, N. Y.
He was a member of the Leominster lodge of Elks, the Leominster Police Association and St. Leo's parish.
Police Chief George H. smith said today, "patrolman Casey was a member of the police department for 27 years. He was efficient and dependable. The department will greatly feel the loss of this loyal and trustworthy officer."
A solemn high mass of requium will be celebrated Saturday morning in St. Leo's church and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
