Andree Gabrielle Millot was born in French Algeria in northern Africa on April 1, 1924. Her family lived outside Paris, France, during the war.

Teddy, who spoke French and later became fluent in English, met an American soldier, Dale L. Brooks of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, whose army unit had fought in the Battle of the Bulge. The war over, Dale returned to his hometown in Minnesota but soon returned for his war bride.

Upon returning to the United States, they were married at Fort Meade in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Dale and Teddy's only child, daughter Carmen Mae (whose middle name honors Dale's mother, who'd passed away when he was at war), was born in July 1947 at Fort Meade. The three remained there a couple more years.

Life for the Brookses was a whirlwind in those years. They returned to Europe when Dale served with the U.S. Army occupation forces, which helped to rebuild Germany. After a couple years they returned to the United States, where they spent time at Fort Knox, Kentucky. All the while, Teddy kept their house in order and doted over her lovely daughter.

Next came hot, dusty southern California, when Dale was stationed at El Centro as a National Guard advisor. Fortunately, the Brookses eventually settled in Clairemont, a San Diego suburb with a moderate climate.

Unfortunately, Dale developed Alzheimer's disease when he was only in his late 60s. He spent his last years at the Fredericka Manor in Chula Vista, where he was visited often by Teddy, Carmen, and his sisters, Carol and Leona. Dale died June 3, 1998, a couple weeks prior to his 77th birthday.

Teddy, always sweet, kind, and gentle, remained in San Diego after her husband's death but eventually decided to move to Arizona to be closer to her son-in-law and daughter. She died at Kingman on April 27, 2012, at the age of 88. Her ashes were returned to San Diego and interred next to Dale's at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
