Harriet was the 6th child of the 9 born to Spencer P and Nancy (Wilkerson) Searcy, born February 2, 1851 in Marion county, Illinois. The family is reported to be in that county on the 1850 census. Some time later they moved to Union TWP of Daviess County, Missouri (Post office: Gallatin, Missouri).
At the age of 15, Harriet married Braxton Browning in Daviess County, Missouri. One child was born of this union, Laura Bell Browning, born on Sept 22, 1866 in Daviess County. The marriage was short lived, and ended in divorce.
Harriet was united in marriage to John Alexander Coulson on Sept 19, 1869. Harriet and John then settled in Adams TWP of DeKalb County, Missouri, where John became a farmer.
In addition to Laura Bell, the couple had the following children:
1. Nancy Emaline Coulson, January 15, 1871.
2. Sidney Fredrick Jackson Coulson, Oct 22, 1872
Sidney died on Jan 28, 1877 at the age of 4 ½. He is buried in the Cope Cemetery in the
Fairview community in Missouri.
3. Annie Florence Coulson, August 18, 1875.
4. Mary Viola Coulson, December 14, 1877.
5. William Floyd Coulson, 1880.
6. Emma Susan Coulson, Aug. 10, 1883
7. Effie Adaline Coulson, Oct 30, 1887
8 Harriet Lee Coulson, July 22, 1889.
The decade of the 1890's was devastating to John and Harriet's family. Most of the family died during those years:

William Floyd died on Jan 17, 1892 at the age of 11.
Annie Florence died on Jan 12, 1893,
Harriet Ann, the mother, died on Jan 22, 1893,10 days after Annie Florence. Harriet was age 41.
Nancy Emaline was married by 1890 (to a James Reid)and had moved out of the household. The family has no record of her subsequent history.
John Alexander died on Feb 17, 1895.
The burial location of most of the family is unknown to the family.
Effie Adaline and Harriet Lee survived into adulthood. Both of them lived and raised the families in DeKalb County, Missouri.
