G.F. Basler Dies; Church Rites Planned. Cheese Maker, Retired Farmer, 89; Funeral at St. Mary's.

George F. Basler, 89, of 118 7th St., died at 12:10 a.m. today at St. Agnes Hospital following a four-week illness. He was a former cheese maker and retired farmer. He was born Oct. 31, 1877, in Ellenwood, Kan., the son of John and Elizabeth Barth Basler. He moved to Chilton as a boy and was a cheese maker for some time. On Nov. 8, 1909, he married Josephine Loehr at St. Michael's Church, Dotyville. Mr. Basler farmed for 17 years before retiring and moving to Fond du Lac. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Holy Name Society. Survivors include his widow; three sons, Edward and George Jr. of the city, and Ralph, Eldorado; two daughters, Mrs. Leo Brenner, city, and Mrs. Reinhold Pipping, Hartford; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Milton Pgrang, Plymouth. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, five brothers and one sister. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry A. Maurer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers for the Thursday funeral at St. Mary's Church for George Basler were Herbert Ottery, Michael Simon, Anton Goebel, Fred Leonard, Clement McGalloway, Joseph Mertes, Leo O'Laughlin and Herbert Mueller. Members of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Church were also honorary pallbearers and included Peter Weyer, George Anders, George Reska and Arthur Mossong. Active pallbearers were Donald Brenner, Norman Pipping, George Basler III, James Basler, Robert Basler and John Basler. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
