Aged Warren Man Dead - Abel Bonifield passed away Thursday morning at an early hour at his home in Warren, after weeks of suffering. Mr. Bonifield was a sufferer from asthma and was not permitted during his long illness, to lie down. Several months ago he was attacked by a light stroke of paralysis and these things combined with the infirmities of old age brought on his death. He was born in Ohio about eighty-two years ago to which place is body will be taken for services and burial Saturday morning. Rev. G. B. Work will accompany the funeral party to Celina and have charge of the services. [Bluffton Evening News, Friday, February 21, 1913]

Abel Bonifield who died at his home here Thursday morning was taken to neptune, Ohio Saturday morning for burial where he was laid to rest among the scenes of his early life. Able Bonifield, son of William and Hannah Bonifield was born in Mercer County, Ohio, April 25, 1833 and died in Warren, Indiana, February 20, 1913, aged 79 years, 9 months and 25 days. For sixty-seven years he was a resident of Mercer County. Retiring from the care and labor on his farm he removed to Warren in the spring of 1900, where he resided until his home going. He was married to Miss Quintilla Upton on the 12th day of September 1861 and for more than half a century they shared their joys and divided their sorrows in that perfect union of life in life. To them were born nine children, three sons, and six daughters of whom two have entered the Golden Gates and seven are now living. Dr. Douglas Bonifield, of Warren, Mrs. Dora Hook, of Mercer County, Ohio, Mary of Gas City, Indiana, Thomas of Kokomo, Indiana, Mrs. Emma [Minnie] Craft of Portland, Oregon, Charles, who resides on the old homestead and Mrs. Etta Lemunyon of Warren. Five of these children are here to comfort the mother and lay father's body amidst the graves of his kindred whom he love so well. For the past four years Father Bonifield has been a invalid and a constant sufferer, and through it all he showed that rare patience and cheerfulness which was characteristic of his whole life. He suffered a stroke of paralysis on the 24th day of December 1912 which with the ravages of his old ailments at last opened the door to that larger, better life to which he has entered. On the 29th day of December he was baptized and as he desired was received into the Methodist Episcopal church in Warren. Humbly he confessed his mistake in putting off his coming to Christ but trustfully he accepted Jesus and found great peace and joy in His fellowship. After his conversion he had a great desire to go to the house of God and publicly confess Christ and worship with God's people. The last two months of his life, although in constant pain, was given to the joy of prayer and song; how he loved to hear the old hymns of the church, the hymns his sainted mother sang. Tears would flow down his cheeks as he would join in singing them but they were tears of a joyful soul save by grace and when the Master Messenger came for him saying, "Jesus wants you to come home to the house not made with hand." Joyfully he went home to be with God forevermore." A good citizen, a loving father, a loyal and devoted husband who filled well his place among us has gone from his place on earth. Rest in peace, my brother.
