Mary LeGare McLucas of Hawthorne, FL passed away Friday, December 26 from kidney complications due to heart failure.
She was born near her present home on June 9, 1921 to Henry and Willie Baker. After moving throughout north central Florida with her family as a child, she attended Jasper High School and graduated in 1939. She married in 1941 and lived in St. Augustine and Jacksonville until returning to the area in 1975 with her husband Askew McLucas. A talented artist and singer, she was involved with several performances by the Lake Area Singers and taught a myriad of students the art of watercolor. Her paintings hang in many of the homes and churches in the area. She was an active member of Keystone United Methodist church and a soloist in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Askew, and sister Leo Campbell and is survived by her sister Willie Lee Gouch, her daughters Susan Sherburne of Jacksonville and Ginny White of Melrose, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, December 30, at Keystone United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the church or the American Heart Association .
