ILLNESS FATAL TO
DIES IN MINNEAPOLIS
Richard S. Broad, 20, former Escanaba resident, died at the Swedish hospital in Minneapolis Thursday afternoon after a lingering illness.
Richard was the son of Robert A. Broad, who now resides at 6701 South Lyndale Avenue, Minneapolis, and the grandson of the late Harry Broad of Escanaba who died in 1945.
He lived in Escanaba until his graduation from high school in 1947, entering the University of Minnesota in the fall of the same year.
He was graduated from Escanaba High School as an honor student, one of the 10 high in scholastic achievement. Richard was very active in the music department of the high school serving three years in the orchestra and band. He was a member of the original matinee orchestra of the Orange and Black society for three years and was chosen to become a member of the National Honor Society in his junior year.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Escanaba.
Funeral services will be held in Escanaba Monday afternoon from the Allo funeral home. Rev. James Bell will officiate. The time of the funeral will be announced later.
Funeral services for Richard Broad were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday from Allo funeral home by the Rev. James Bell, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.
Pallbearers were Conrad Driscoll, James Moran, James Rolfe, Mark O'Connell, James Jensen and James Degnan. Burial was made in Lakeview Cemetery.
Out-of-town persons attending included Mr. and Mrs. Robert Broad of Mineapolis, his parents.
