Exact Date of birth unknown, born in Ireland, believed in County Sligo, supposedly married three times. First wife was Anne Cartwright; second wife, Catherine Burke, third wife, name unknown. I had alwyas been told that George William Allen was Chief Recorder, County Sligo, and Librarian, Trinity College, Dublin. Children of George William Allen and Anne Cartwright were: Thomas William, George and Sarah Anne- and perhaps others. Order of birth unknown, but Thomas William died (in Millbrook) Nov 11, 1905, aged 83 years so it can be assumed that he was born in 1822.
Wood-Martin (vol. 3) mentions a "recorder of Sligo" in "1834, William
Allen (in 1849 he resigned, received a retiring pension, and was
succeeded by Edmund Rochfort)
