He was the son of John B., 1849-1920, and Eliza Ann (Hardesty) Benningfield, 1860-1932. Jim's parents are buried in the Benningfield Cemetery in Marion Co., KY at the foot of Muldraugh's Hill, on KY 55-U. S. 68. James Marion Benningfield's grandparents were: James C. and America Ann (Lake) Benningfield and Anthony and Jane (White) Hardesty. His siblings were: George W. Benningfield, 1880-1949; Ann Elizabeth (Benningfield) Farmer, 1883-1962; John Bertram Benningfield, 1885-1948; Mattie Ermine (Benningfield) Brockman, 1890-1969; and Robert A. Benningfield, 1888-1957. He married Nannie Bet Newton, 1883-1936, the daughter of Leo Rice and Susan Ann (Russell) Newton on Jan. 27, 1917 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY. The death record says he was a widowed farmer. It says he is buried in the Newton Family Cemetery at Finley, Rt. 1, Marion Co., KY on Aug. 12, 1950. It says the funeral director was the Marshall-Lyon Funeral Home, Campbellsville, KY. He and his wife are the only two with tombstones in this cemetery. He and his wife were the grandparents of Joe M. Abell of Franklin, KY and Betty (Abell) Drake of Florida who were here, in the Marion County, KY Library researching their Russell roots today.
