"VT VOL Died and buried in Chicago ILL."
(Records show he was a member of the 9th VT Regiment, CO A and at 6 foot 4 inches, "the tallest man in the Regiment." He died of Disease. In short, the 9th was taken prisoner at Harpers Ferry September 1862 and paroled to Chicago to guard Confederate prisoners. Small pox took its toll on many there, from both sides. Alfred died before the 9th was exchanged Jan. 10, 1863. He is purportedly buried at Rosehill National cemetery, Chicago, IL)
