Jonathan Hamilton Hartely, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Hartley, served in Company E Regiment 37 of the Confederate Army from 1861 until 1864. He was taken prisoner on November 28, 1964. His first wife was Celia Ann Stout; they were married on September 17, 1867 in Tennessee. She died in April 1882 in Butler County, Kansas where they had homesteaded in early 1870.
