|Death: ||Sep. 13, 1926|
Sarah Armstrong was born at 137 W. 19th Street, in New York City, on 12 February 1855, the first child of John C. Armstrong and Margaret Atkinson. John and Margaret, immigrants from County Sligo, Ireland, were married in New York in 1854.
Shortly after Sarah's birth, the family moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Margaret's brother Thomas had settled in Green Bay after immigrating to the U.S. in 1848.
Sarah married Charles John Allen, son of John and Catherine Allen, on 18 September 1878, in Green Bay. Like Sarah's brothers Henry, John, and James, Charles worked for the railroad. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Charles was employed as a boilermaker for the C.M & Saint Paul Railroad.
Sarah gave birth to 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. The first three children, Vivian, John Henry, and Vera were born in Minneapolis. The next two, William Charles and Roy James were born in Green Bay. Apparently, Sarah and the children stayed with her parents until after the births, while Charles remained in Minnesota. It is unclear where the sixth child, Ethel Eola, was born. She lived only 2 years (1889-1891) and died while the family was living in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Most of Sarah and Charles' married life was spent in Minnesota, with the exception of the period from 1909 to 1917, when they lived in Murdo, South Dakota. Their daughter Vera lived with them during this period.
Sarah died in Minneapolis and is buried in the Armstrong family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery in Green Bay.
