Paul Raymond McCarthy
Born August 13, 1945 in Richmond, California-- Departed for Heaven February 1, 2007.
Paul was a gentle, sweet artistic soul, brave enough to follow his dream, no matter how tough the road. Music filled his being and he was never happier than when he was on stage singing the music he loved. But his greatest achievement and personal happiness came from learning to be a father, basking in the joy, love and friendship his son Jason gave to him. Lately he had come to know the magic of having grandchildren as he watched his grandsons grow from boys to teenagers. His old dreams faded and his new dreams were wrapped up in his family.
Besides his son and his grandsons, Paul leaves his three sisters, and their families, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, along with the many friends he accumulated over his lifetime, to mourn his passing and carry on his loving spirit. Paul was predeceased by his parents Charles Henry McCarthy and Laura Bell Stealman McCarthy, a brother, Charles Thomas (Sonny) McCarthy and his Uncle Robert Stealman. Paul takes our love and a part of our hearts with him to Heaven.
Paul attended schools in Richmond including, Belding Elementary School, Edward M. Downer Junior High, and Richmond High School.
He caught the music bug early in his teen years and was singing with bands in local clubs such as the Lighthouse and The Pablo Club long before he turned 21. As his bands became more popular on the music scene he could be found playing at Fillmore West and Union Street Clubs in San Francisco. He had a loyal Bay Area following for many years before he headed to the less populated areas of Northern California. He re-started his music career after settling into the less stressful environs of the "real laid back" California. He soon had a loyal following up North.
During the Vietnam War era Paul served the country he loved as a member of the National Guard faithfully discharging his duty.
It was time for Paul to go………. To be finally free from that burdensome body and pain
Remember he did not leave us………He returned home to God's love
