Robert Dyer came from his birthplace, to Canada in 1856, and moved from there to Antonagon co, MI in 1859, where he worked in copper mining for several years. While there, he met Mary Ann McCrossen and they were married. They had children, John, Samuel Hugh, Elizabeth, Mary, Thomas H., and James A. Dyer.
The family moved to Ishpeming co, MI, where Robert engaged in Iron mining. He was the superintendent at the Palmer Mine, MI, for 12 years.
In 1883, the family moved to Britton, Marshall co, SD.
