World War I Veteran
The eldest son of James Edward MacKesson and Myrtle Davis MacKesson. Following the death of his mother, Robert and his siblings (Neal, Patti, and Jean Dorothea) were raised by J.E. and the second Mrs. MacKesson, Virginia Farrar MacKesson. The family owned the town newspaper and Robert worked there as a youth. He served in World War I. After the war, Robert worked as a gunsmith and served as a career police officer and for a time, serving as escort/honor guard for the Governor of the state of Connecticut.
Robert was married to Marguerite Warner MacKesson. Together they had four children: Roberta MacKesson Smith, Barbara Alice "Babs" MacKesson, Stanley MacKesson, and Jean Marie MacKesson.
