Jewell was the daughter of James Anderson Simmons and Margaret Ellen Cates Simmons. She had two brothers, Raymond and Sheldon Simmons and one sister, Vera Harper. She was saved as a young girl and belonged to Pleasant View Baptist Church, Carthage, MO. Jewell married George S. Byers on May 30, 1936 in Springfield, Mo. They had three daughters, Margaret Alice, Georgie Ann, and Judy Kay. Jewell died at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Mo on Oct. 25, 2002. To read about her life with George, check his memorial.
