Dennis Arlen Dillon was born on October 21, 1936 at the Harper Hospital in Harper, Kansas to Louis Clair and Lela Louise (Pearl) Dillon. He passed away on Thursday , August 25, 2011 at the Harper Hospital at the age of seventy four.
He was raised on a farm northeast of Adams, Kansas and attended the Adams Grade School from the first through the eighth grades. He then moved with his parents to Harper County; northwest of Harper; where he helped his father on the farm. He attended and graduated from the Harper High School.
In the summer of 1954 he followed the harvest from western Kansas to Montana, returning to Harper to attend Arkansas City Junior College at Arkansas City, Kansas for a year.
In 1955 he found employment at Boeing Military Airplane Company. He then joined the Army National Guard and was called into active service in 1961 during the building of the Berlin Wall and was honorably discharged in 1962.
On February 14, 1958, he married Beverly Jo Bridgess and to this union four children were added Penny Jo, Ginger Lea, Todd Jason and Dawn Ashley.
In 1973, after leaving from Boeing in Seattle he moved the family to Clearwater to allow his children to grow up around their grandparents. Dennis then attended the Friends University in Wichita, graduating in 1986 with a BS degree in Human Resources. He lived in Wichita for the next fifteen years in finance estimating and contract negotiations for the Modification Center at Boeing in Wichita. He retired early, at age fifty eight, receiving an early out bonus from Boeing after thirty five years of service.
Dennis was a Nascar fan, loved airplanes and often helped Jim Mathes farm. After retiring he moved to Harper, Kansas where he resided until his death.
Dennis was united in marriage with Carole Tilly in May of 2003 at Anthony, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter: Penny Jo Dillon.
Dennis is survived by his wife Carole of the home in Harper; son: Todd Dillon and his wife Kym of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughters: Ginger Whitney and her husband Mark of Peabody, Kansas and Dawn DeHart and her husband Ron of Haysville, Kansas; stepsons: Gideon Zabroski of Harper, Kansas and Cody Zabroski of Newton, Kansas; brother: Leslie Dillon and his wife Ann of Branson, Missouri; sister: Joanne Maninger and her husband Joe of St. Charles, Missouri; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Harper Cemetery with Pastor Bruce Gass officiating. "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross" will be sang by Chaplain Dan Floyd. Military rites will be performed by the Ft Riley Honor Guard.
Memorials may be given in memory of Dennis to Hospice Care of Kansas and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
