Obituary in the Herington Times 8 Jul 1920
Death of Peter Sangwin
Peter Sangwin, for many years a resident of this community, passed away Saturday morning after an illness of several months. He was born in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, November 10th, 1851 and moved to Carleton, Nebraska, in 1879, being one of the earliest settlers in that vicinity, In 1894 he moved to Texas and three years later returned to Carleton, Nebraska where he remained until 1904 when he came to Kansas, settling on a farm near Herington. In 1907 he and his family moved into town, remaining here until his death.
Mr Sangwin was married to Mary Ida Garey the 25th day of March 1883 and from this union seven children were born, of whom all are living save one who died in infancy.
Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. Rush of Rupert, Idaho, Mrs Frank Pierce and Will Sangwin of Herington (twins), Harry Sangwin of Herington, Mrs. Thomas Cronican of Herington, and Mrs. Frank Duntley of Judith Cap, Montana.
All the children were in attendance at the funeral except Mrs. Rush, she having returned only a couple of weeks ago to her home in Idaho after a two months visit here.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church, with interment in Sunset Hill cemetery, a large numbers of friends at the services.
Mr. Swangwin was a man who prided himself in living up to his word and his obligations. He had strong convictions and was fearless in defense of them. Until the past few years he was a man of wonderful physique. A complication of troubles, which could not be overcome was responsible for his death.
