Martin's father's name was David (he is reported to be buried next to Martin)and his mother's name was Abigail. He had two sisters who were both born in Iowa, Matilda J (born around 1849) and Mary E. (born around 1853). Sometime between 1860 and 1880, Martin's father remarried. His second wife was Sarah, and they had two more daughters, Martha (born around 1868 in Iowa) and Mina (born around 1872 in Nebraska).
Martin was not only a soldier, he was also a homesteader, and he worked as a guard at Leavenworth Prison. He homesteaded in Thomas County,Kansas, and he and his family also lived in Turkey Creek,Nebraska.
Martin and Mary Jane Dailey had eight children: Alice Josephine Clark, Mary Jane's daughter with her first husband Alexander Clark (1836-1916), first husband William Holt, second husband Edward Johnson; Sarah (1869-before 1880); Charles (1871-?), married Stella; Louie May (1874-1902) married Mr. Smith; Cora, Dora and Edna (listed below); and Amanda (1881-1907) married J."Bud" Young.
