|Death: ||Jul. 7, 1885|
According to census records, Abel C. Caudell was born about 1819 in Georgia, his father was born in Virginia, and his mother was born in North Carolina. In Georgia, he married Ann (unknown) and they were to have six children: three born in Georgia and three born in Arkansas.
Between 1845 and 1848, the family had moved to Arkansas and were enumerated in Poinsett County in the 1850 census. In 1852 Abel Caudell purchased land in Johnson County, Arkansas, and settled the family there.
Abel C. Caudell also went to the California gold fields where by chance he met his future son-in-law John Austin Hunt, a young immigrant from Ireland. In 1855, back in Johnson County, John Hunt purchased farm land and married Caudell's oldest daughter, Amanda Jane.
Abel C. Caudell was a life-long farmer. However, he was also a Minister of the Gospel (MG) who performed marriage ceremonies in Johnson County.
Abel C. Caudell died July 7, 1885 in Johnson County, Arkansas. County Probate records list heirs as John Higgins and wife, George Caudell, Henry Freeman and wife, and John Hunt and wife of Greenwood, Arkansas. Ann Caudell had died previously, as she is listed in the 1880 census, but not listed as an heir in 1885.
Abel C. Caudell is buried at an unknown location in Johnson County, Arkansas.
