Andrew would have been named after his uncle, Andrew Jackson Gilkey, who was killed at Petersburg, Virginia during the Civil War. He was shot by a sniper in June before the Battle of Petersburg.
The newspaper clipping is from the Colfax Gazette, Colfax, Washington, Friday, January 25, 1901, page 2. His body must have been brought back to Washington for buriel about a year after his death.
