Terry MS-- Willis Walton Wright, 72, a retired fireman, died of cancer Saturday at St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson MS.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home.
Mr. Wright was a Neshoba County native. He worked in the Jackson Fire Department before retiring as Assistant Chief in 1988 after 27 years. He was a U.S. Marine WWII veteran, serving in Iwo Jima as a machine gunner. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded on tour. He was a Mason and Shriner for more than 40 years and a member of Hinds Hunting Club on King's Point Island for 30 years. He was a member of the Highland Baptist Church and was married to his wife, Margaret Ann Scoggins, for 43 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and a little gardening at home.
" He always told us that he tried to treat people the way he wanted to be treated", said his oldest son, Jimmy Wright, of Jackson.
Other survivors include: son, Carry Wright, daughter, Sheila Wright both of Jackson, and five grandchildren.
