Daniel Fuoss was born on September 13th, 1838 in Isingen,Kingdom of Wurttemberg (present-day Germany) to Jakob and Anna Maria (Frommer) Fuoss. Daniel left Germany on the 11th of July 1860 aboard Saxonia from Hamburg to North America. He arrived in New York on July 31st, 1860. Daniel enlisted as a Union soldier on the 19th of August 1862. He was honorably discharged on 5th of March 1865 in Mound City, Ill. He married Elizabeth Westrick on September 17th, 1868 in Independence, Iowa. After their marriage they relocated to Clark Township, south of Dysart, Tama County. He was an honest and well respected citizen to all who knew him. On March 31st, 1894 passed away leaving behind his wife, and children: Anna, Edward, Rose, Louis, Daniel, and Johanna.
