Edna Reed Moore Talbert, 104, of East Wenatchee, died Thursday, February 17, 2005, in the Columbia View Terrace Adult Care Home where she had been a resident.

Edna was born in Red Bird, Arkansas, on February 7, 1901, and was the seventh of nine children born to the late Benjamin M. and Lucinda (O'Neal) Reed. Edna and Willi D. Moore were married in 1916, and made their first home at Fewell, Oklahoma. In 1936, the family moved from Oklahoma to Washington and settled in Plain. Edna's ninth child was born the month the family moved into the log house they built on their newly purchased fifteen acres of timbered land in Shugart Flats.

At that time there were only two other families in Shugart Flats.

Edna was a homemaker and a farmer's wife.

She was known to be able to repair most anything that might go wrong with their Model T; she milked the family cow, raised a fine garden of vegetables and flowers. When the family lived in New Mexico, her brother made her a spinning wheel so she could spin and knit socks for her young family. She made each of her daughters-in law beautiful quilts and she taught her granddaughters how to crochet. During apple harvest she worked alongside her husband in Frank Mottler's apple orchards. In 1945, they sold the farm to their son, Troy and moved to Wenatchee. W.D was employed at Centennial Flour Mills and Edna found employment in the cannery and dehydrator and later worked at Model Laundry. When her youngest child was in the 8th grade, Edna enrolled in the nursing program at Saint Anthony's Hospital and in June of 1954, at the age of fifty-three she became a licensed practical nurse. She continued in this profession until she retired at the age of seventy-three.

Her life reflected her love for the Lord Jesus and she taught her children God's ways. She was a member of the Calvary Bible Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of fifty-eight years, W. D. Moore and her second husband of eleven years, Roland Talbert; a son, Gather and two daughters, Goldie Herr and Barbara Lou Hefely. She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Troy and Jean, Ted and Tommie, Jasper and Darleen, and Bill; two daughters, Susie Bowen and Imogene and her husband Monte Cockrill; 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express love and appreciation to all those at Columbia View Terrace Adult Family Home who gave devoted care to our Granny and Mom.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at Eastmont Baptist Church. A private Interment will take place at the Wenatchee City Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
