Mary was born in Brownstown, Westmeath, Ireland to John Hassett and Catharine Battersby. Mary immigrated to the United States at about 8 years old with her family in 1849. There may be a discrepancy with church records regarding her date of birth.

Mary was married to Matthew Moore on Oct. 21, 1869 in Batavia, New York, and they had five children.

MRS. MATTHEW MOORE. Dead at the Home of Her Daughter at Stone Church.

Stone Church, Jan. 8—Mrs. Mary Moore, widow, of Matthew Moore, died at 7:00 o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Wood, from a complication of diseases. She had been ill a long time. Mrs. Moore was born In Ireland in 1841 and came to this country when she was eight years old. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hassett.

She is survived by four children, Charles and Jacob of Buffalo, Mrs. Stoddard McConnell of Riga and Mrs. Wood, with whom she lived, and a brother, John Hassett of the Soldiers' Home In Bath. The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. Moore's daughter at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Rev. John Van Tilburg officiating. The burial will be in the family plot in the Rural cemetery at Stone Church.
