Although Cyrenus (Si) Branch is buried in the Pleasant Mound churchyard in Clay Co where they attended church, his farm was across the county line in Wayne Co.

Iuka, across the line in Marion County, is where his granddaughter Frances Branch Oliver lived. All three places are within 10 miles of each other.

Hannah Branch and Si Branch are half brother and sister. They married brother and sister, Oliver and Jane Hammond. Si was a waggoner in the Civil War. Mary Long Hammond Branch died 1896 and Cyrenus married second to Amanda Catherine Vallow Shaeffer as her second husband.

Cyrenus is the son of Rev. Sam'l S Branch and his first wife Lucy Thorn, who died soon after Cyrenus' birth in Meigs Co, Ohio.

1864-65 Civil War Vet Record: Waggoner, Co I, 54th Ill Inf Volun, Held As POW At Benton Barracks, MO (March and April 1862 absent on furlough at home, not able for duty Also absent May and June. (his father died 29 jan 1862) Mar 1 1862 at Cairo ILL, contracted rupture from being kicked by a horse while drawing wood. In 1863 Nov and Dec detailed as Carpenter aboard Steamer; 1864 Jan & Feb transf. to 106th Ill Vol order of Gen. Steel. Feb, Mch, Apr duty on board Steamer Chippewa. Also part of this year attached (Sept Oct Nov) in Quartermaster Dept at Little Rock Ark, this company was captured Aug 24 at Ashley Station and remained prisoner at Benton Barracks MO until Dec 27th when they were exchanged. Mustered out 17 Feb 1865 at Cairo Ill. At the time of his death in 1928 Cyrenus was receiving a pension of $30 per month.

Si and Mary Branch were parents of five daughters: Sarah Jane (died as infant), Lucy Jane, Margaret Luella, Rilla Belle, M. Lucretia "Louie".
