Carl W. Branch moved to the homestead near Buffalo when he was five years old with his parents. He married Roma G Simpson 30 Aug 1925 at Buffalo and they had a son, Eldon Wendell Branch born 27 Dec 1927. Roma went to visit with her parents when Eldon was born, and she never came back except with her father to get her things. Carl said it was a complete surprise to him; he didn't know she was not happy.
They divorced in 1928 and Carl never remarried. The son, Eldon Branch, was raised by his grandparents Simpson. He never married and died of lung cancer in Oregon. Carl was a farmer and remained on the homestead with his brother Paul until his death.
Carl Branch was an active member of all branches of the IOOF (Oddfellows) Lodge, served in every office and was inducted into their highest orders, called Cantonment. Members of the IOOF lodge conducted graveside rites at High Point cemetery following the funeral at First Baptist Church of Buffalo.
The emblem of the Odd Fellows is usually shown as three links of a chain marked FLT, which stands for Friendship, Love, Truth, three degrees associated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The Odd Fellows, first organized in the US in 1819, is a popular fraternal/benefit organization. A number on the stone is the local lodge number.
