|Death: ||Oct. 26, 1938|
Friedrich Wilhelm Bartels, son of Henry Bartels and his wife, Engel Maria, was born in Schaumburg-Lippe, Germany, on February 14, 1862, and was baptized in his infancy.
He and his parents came to America in 1870, and for the next 13 years made their home in Will county, Illinois. There he received the usual religious instruction, and was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Rev. Braun officiating.
He was 21 years of age when he came to Nebraska, and made his home at Tobias. On the 8th day of November, 1888, he entered into holy wedlock with Mrs. Ida Bartels, nee Guse. Their marriage was blessed with 9 children. Of these a daughter and three sons are living, four sons and a daughter preceded their father in eternity.
The deceased was a quiet, unassuming Christian, a loving husband and father, and a good neighbor and citizen. He and his wife were planning to observe their 50th wedding anniversary on the 8th of this month (November). But it pleased God to call him from this earth suddenly. He died of a stroke last Wednesday evening, October 26th, at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 12 days.
The immediate mourners are his wife; his daughter, Mrs. Ida Aden of Chappell, Nebr.; his three sons, Fred H. of David City, nebr., Theodore William of Portsmouth, Virginia and Loren J. of Kimball, Nebr.; his stepson, August Bartels of Rockford, Ill.; two brothers, William Bartels of Fort Pierre, So. Dak. and Henry Bartels of Okoboys, So. Dak; his sister, Lena Bartels of Alpena, So. Dak.; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; a number of more distant relatives, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 31, 1938, at 1:30 from the Bruning funeral parlor and 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church. Interment was on Trinity Lutheran cemetery.
