Ralph was the first in his family to attend Waco High School due to the encouragement of their pastor. He earned a regional scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska which he did for one semester. See his ROTC group picture in UN yearbook. His dad Henry offered him a new 1937 car if he came home to help farm which he did. In the spring of 1937 a German Johann Stuhr (brother to Railroad Henry Stuhr) came to America to convince a Stuhr relative to come back to Germany to take over his farm. Obviously Dad already made an agreement with his dad to help him farm. In 1941 he married Flora Kruse and rented an old frame house on the Dwehus Homestead in the NE corner of Section 4. The house had no indoor plumbing, closets or icebox and mom kept the baby formula cool in the stock tank next to the windmill. In 1944 he purchased a 320 acre farm NW of Bradshaw with brother Gus. Gus had been farming Bradshaw farm land their grandpa owned. I was about two along with my sister Syd when we moved over. A year or two later Dad received title for the south 1/2 and Gus for the north 1/2. Later dad bought the adjacent 80 next to his from Gus. Later dad received his one of grandpa's 80's east of Gus's farm. Then
