Paul Fredereck "Jigger" Atterberry, 75, of Fulton, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Jigger was born August 3, 1922, in Portland, a son of David Bridges and Elsea May (Haven) Atterberry. He married Gladys Hoover on July 16, 1948. She survives.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosemary (Bill) Fletcher of Fulton, four sons, Paul Frederick (Patty) Atterberry Jr., David Atterberry and Jerry (Ruby) Atterberry, all of Fulton and Roger Atterberry of Columbia, fifteen grandchildren, Jeffrey, Aaron, Derek, Brandy, Roger, Darrell, Chad and Tabitha Atterberry, Richard and Amy, Emily and Jenny Fletcher, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, his son, Don Atterberry, one brother, John Robert Atterberry and one granddaughter, Misty DeeLynn Louise Atterberry.
Mr. Atterberry served his country in the United States Army during World War 11 as a Medical Aidman. He earned two Bronze Stars, three Overseas Bars and several Ribbons and Buttons.
He worked twenty-five years at Kaiser Refractories in Mexico before taking early retirement in 1980 due to lung disease.
He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren, playing cards, cooking and working with wood and leather. Jigger made beautiful leather wallets and knife sheaths as well as many other things.
Services will be 2pm Monday, July 6, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Mike Crowson officiating. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetary.
Visitation will be from 4-7pm Sunday, July 5, at the funeral home.
