Samuel Craighead was born February 28, 1860, in Hams Prairie to Mark Anthoney and Carolyn Celeste (Payne) Craighead. His Mother died when he was small and his father and step-mother died before he was very old.
He lived in Calwood all his adult life and married Lillie Draper, a native of Calwood and she preceeded him in death. Sam and Lillie were married January 20, 1891, in Calwood, by George W. Penn, Minister of the Gospel. Lillie was underage so her father gave permission for their marriage.
He died at age 80, February 19, 1941 at his home of Bilateral Broncial Pneumonia. His daughter, Lela Williams, was the informant.
They had one daughter, Lela Lessie and also raised a Grandson Samuel Leslie Strait. They lived South of Calwood on a large farm until later years,(the house is still standing and has been remodeled several times),then moved 5 miles North-East of Calwood and Samuel opened a feed store and Blacksmith shop. Lillie died in 1917 and Sam raised Leslie alone into adulthood.
He is survived by his daughter, Lela (Tom) Williams of Fulton, three grandsons Leslie Strait, Thomas Stanley Williams and Eddie Ray Williams, one granddaughter Claresse Dean Williams, five great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. Clarisse Dean loved to go to her grandpa's farm.
Sam was preceeded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Barbara Ann Debo Craighead and his wife, Lillie.
Funeral arrangements and interment arranged by Leo Wallace Wallace Funeral Home. Sam and Lillie Share a tombstone, it is in good condition and easy to read.

Samuel Craighead died at 1:o'clock, Wedesday night, at his home near the Ebenezer Babtist Church. He would have been 81 years old February 28.
Mr. Craighead was born February 28, 1860 at Hams Prairie, the son of Mark Anthoney and Carolyn Celeste Craighead.
He was an active farmer for many years and spent his entire life in Callaway County.
His parents and his wife preceeded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Lela) Williams of Fulton, the following brothers and sisters, Jack Craighead of North Fulton, Claude Craighead of South of Fulton, Patrick Craighead, Winkard Craighead, William Craighead, Mrs. Osa Guerrant of South of Fulton, Mrs. Sarah Creed of North of Fulton and Mrs. Clarence Glennon of St. Louis, three grandsons, Samuel "Leslie" Strait of Mexico, Thomas Stanley "Tommy" Williams, Eddie Ray Williams both of Fulton and one granddaughter, Clarice "Deane" Williams Owen, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Friday afternoon at Ebenezer Church.
