Former Hastings resident Edward W Hubbard, 40, of Riverside, Mo., died Sunday, March 21, 1999 at his home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Guide Rock with the Rev Alvin Trucano officiating. Burial will be in Guide Rock Cemetery. Simonson Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.

Mr Hubbard was born June 9, 1958, to Jasper W and Dolores J (Schultz) Hubbard in Hastings. In 1960, he and his family moved to Iowa City, Iowa. In 1966, the family moved to Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from Park Hill High School in 1976. He studied geology and administration of justice at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He graduated from the Kansas City Police Academy and began a 20-year career with the North Kansas City Bureau of Investigation where he was captain and operations manager.

Survivors are his mother of Guide Rock; and one sister, Susan K Hubbard of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be given to Barr Hospice, North Kansas City, Mo, the Avondale United Methodist Church, Avondale, MO or the Guide Rock United Methodist Church.

Edward Wallace Hubbard, the son of Jasper Woodrow "Bud" and Dolores Jean (Schultz) Hubbard, was born June 9, 1958 at Hastings, Nebraska. He departed this life on Sunday, March 21, 1999 following a battle with cancer at his home in Riverside, Missouri.

Edward moved with his family in 1960 to Iowa City, Iowa, and in 1966, they moved to the Kansas City, Missouri area where he resided the rest of his life. He graduated from the Park Hill High School with the class of 1976. He continued his education at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, studying geology and administration of justice. He was a member of the TKE fraternity. Choosing law enforcement as his life's work, he graduated from the Kansas City Police Academy and then embarked a 20-year career with the North Kansas City Bureau of Investigation, where he was a captain and operations manager at the time of his death.

Ed volunteered his time with youth in the area, as well as at the police academy, teaching judo wrestling. He was also proficient in other martial art forms, and was an expert marksman. In his leisure time he had enjoyed playing tennis, hunting rocks and minerals, lapidary, and enjoyed music. His personality was pervaded by his keen sense of humor. He often planned humorous pranks on his friends and was equally good-natured if someone returned the favor. He loved his profession, and he highly regarded and cherished his friendships.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bud Hubbard on Nov. 14, 1992. Left to treasure his memory are his mother Delores Hubbard of Guide Rock, Nebraska; his sister Susan Kay Hubbard of Lincoln, Nebraska; other relatives and his many friends.
