Edward moved with his family in 1960 to Iowa City, Iowa, and in 1966, they moved to the Kansas City, Missouri area where he resided the rest of his life. He graduated from the Park Hill High School with the class of 1976. He continued his education at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, studying geology and administration of justice. He was a member of the TKE fraternity. Choosing law enforcement as his life's work, he graduated from the Kansas City Police Academy and then embarked a 20-year career with the North Kansas City Bureau of Investigation, where he was a captain and operations manager at the time of his death.

Ed volunteered his time with youth in the area, as well as at the police academy, teaching judo wrestling. He was also proficient in other martial art forms, and was an expert marksman. In his leisure time he had enjoyed playing tennis, hunting rocks and minerals, lapidary, and enjoyed music. His personality was pervaded by his keen sense of humor. He often planned humorous pranks on his friends and was equally good-natured if someone returned the favor. He loved his profession, and he highly regarded and cherished his friendships.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bud Hubbard on Nov. 14, 1992. Left to treasure his memory are his mother Delores Hubbard of Guide Rock, Nebraska; his sister Susan Kay Hubbard of Lincoln, Nebraska; other relatives and his many friends.
