Son of Louis Adams (1863–1904) and Jennie Willey (1864–1954).

There is some confusion about his birth year. The VA has 1886, which is on his gravestone; the California Death Index has 1895; his WWI draft registration has 1890; and the birth records in Massachusetts, as well as his WWII registration, have 1891. 1891 was chosen here because that is what his birth record shows.

On 3 July 1918 he married Muriel Elizabeth Burton (1892–1978) in Fresno County, California. She was the daughter of Harry W Burton (1864–1934) and Mary Ellis Thorne (1870–1947).

According to the VA, he served in the US Army during World War I from 29 July 1918 to 27 January 1919 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Private.

He was living in Sacramento County prior to his admission to the Weimar Sanatorium on 26 September 1944, where he died 3-1/2 months later.
