Son of Isaac Newton Rogers (1862-1951) and Frances Louvinia Williams (1863-1935). Joseph, who went by his middle name, Grant, was born 16 Feb 1888 in Montpelier, Blackford Co, Indiana. He died 30 Jul 1957 in Canon City, Fremont Co,Colorado. At death he left 3rd wife, Delia (Della) Jane Williams Powell. They were married 17 Jul 1943 in Bartlesville, OK.
Grant Rogers, of Canon City, Colo., a native of Blackford county, and brother of Walter Rogers, north Mulberry street, died at 8 a.m., Tuesday at St. Thomas More hospital, at Canon City, where he had been a patient since May 12th.
Word of his death was received here Tuesday, by Mrs. Walter Rogers, from her husband who left for Canon City, Friday night, to be at the bed side of his brother.
Upon entering the hospital, May 12th, Mr. Rogers underwent an operation for pancreitis and on June 30th, he submitted to surgery a second time for removal of gallstones and further treatment of the Pancreas. He was administered several blood transfusions during his hospital treatment.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 10 o'clock at Canon City, with burial to follow in Denver, Colo. [an error. He was actually buried in Canon City, CO]
Mr. Rogers is survived by his widow, Della; the son, Paul (by a former marriage), now a resident of Colorado Springs; seven sisters, Mrs. Nettie Rinker, wife of James M. Rinker, west of this city; Mrs. Edith Teagle, a twin sister and wife of Herman Teagle, of montpelier, Mrs. Ethel Shannon and Mrs. Verda Shadle, wife of Ralph Shadle, of near Montpelier, Mrs. Alice Snyder, wife of Ely Snyder, of Canton, Ohio, Mrs. Clara Conner, wife of Roy Conner, of southeast of Bluffton, Mrs. Lucille Reffe, wife of William Reffe, of Ft. Wayne; five brothers, james, of Indianapolis, Harry, of Royerton, Walter, Paul and Eldo, all of Hartford City and many nieces and nephews all of Hartford City and vicinity.
Mr. Rogers was born in Blackford county in feb. 1888, a son of the late Isaac and Lavina Williams Rogers. He was one of 17 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. Mr. Rogers went to Colorado when a young man and worked as a coal miner for many years. Later he and his son, Paul came to Indiana and he worked on farms northeast of this city, and also, he and his son were salesmen for the McNess Co. About 20 years ago, he and the son returned to Colorado where they operated a restaurant in Florence, Colo. Later Mr. Rogers returned to the mines until his retirement about five years ago. For the last fourteen years he and his wife had lived in Oak Creek Gunnison, and for the past year in Canon City.
