Maestro Thomas Alexandrovich de Hartmann was a famous Russian composer and a favorite student and collaborator of George Gurdjieff.

Thomas or "Foma" was born in Khoruzhivka, Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire, which is now located in Sumy Oblasts, Ukraine.

Thomas is nephew of Eduard von Hartmann, author of "Philosophy of the Unconscious" which was published in Germany in 1869. The book is well respected in USA and the UK.

Thomas received his diploma from the St Petersburg Conservatory.
Thomas studied conducting in Munich with Felix Mottl before the outbreak of WWI

Thomas married Olga Arkadievna de Schumacher, a well respected opera singer who's father was a high official in Tsarist Russia.
