Mr Alex Gard was born Alexey Kremkoff [Alexis] [Krenkoff](Алексей Кремков) in Kazan, which was 'then in the Russian Empire.

He was a famous cartoonist in New York City, and was known for his caricatures of celebrities.

(PLEASE NOTE: FOR THOSE RESEARCHING HIS NAME, APPARENTLY THERE ARE SEVERAL-VARIOUS WAYS HE USED HIS NAME, AND OR, PERHAPS MISTAKES THAT EXISTED AND WENT BY UNEDITED IN THE PAST, EITHER WAY, IT IS ALL ONE PERSON. THE TOMBSTONE SHOWS THE NAME AS KRENKOFF AND APPARENTLY LISTED AS SUCH IN THE DOCUMENTS, IN RUSSIA, HIS NAME WAS KREMKOFF (КРЕМКОВ), AND IF YOU CHECK WIKIPEDIA, FRENCH AND PORTUGUESE, ITS ALL KREMKOV OR KREMKOFF... NOT KRENKOFF)

Most of his work appeared in weekly drawings in the drama section of The New York Herald Tribune.
His other work can bee seen on the walls of Sardi's Restaurant in New York City, where he agreed with Vincent Sardi the owner, that Alex Gard would draw the caricatures in exchange for one meal per day. Gard drew caricatures in exchange for meals until his death, ultimately creating over 700 pictures.
Most of the caricatures are currently located at the Billy Rose Theatre Collection of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

During World War I, Gard worked on a Russian destroyer. When the Russian revolution occured in 1917, he escaped Russia, fleeing from the Bolshevists, for France and ended drawing caricatures for "Le Matin". He eventually came to America in 1924.

Gard resided at 167 East Eighty-second Street, and collapsed on the street and died as he was being transported to Roosevelt Hospital in 1948.

His funeral took place at the Russian Orthodox Church of Christ the Saviour which was on 121st Street and Madison Avenue.
