William Dawson Boone Jr., passed away on May 2, 2012 peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving children. Dawson was born to William Dawson and Elizabeth Bannantine Boone on August 3, 1926 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas the next year and to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1933, where Dawson remained for the rest of his life. He graduated from Corpus Christi Academy in 1944 and then spent three years on active duty in the United States Army. He returned to attend college at the University of Notre Dame, and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1951. He remained in the Army Reserve for 28 years, eventually retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dawson spent his professional career in the Life Insurance industry, first as an agent for Southwestern Life Insurance Company and then as an independent insurance agent, Chartered Life Underwriter, and Certified Financial Planner. He was looked to for his knowledge and expertise by many during both the good and difficult times of their lives. He was an Eagle Scout and remained active in the scouting program for years as an adult. He has a son and a grandson who followed in his scouting footsteps to the rank of Eagle. Dawson was active in the Rotary Club, his church and the Knights for many years. Even after his own retirement, he continued to administer the Priests' Pension fund and the Memorial Medical Center Retirement Accounts as a trusted advisor.
Dawson was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Nell Liem Boone, a younger brother George, and his sister, Mary Nell Stockwell.
His surviving family members include Dan Boone and wife Jackie of Halletsville, Texas, Jim Boone and Joe Bucuzzo of Spokane, Washington, Michael Boone and wife, Pat of Falls of the Rough, Kentucky, David Boone and wife, Margaret of Dripping Springs, Texas and Peter Boone and wife, Mary Helen of Austin, Texas.
He is succeeded by his eldest son Trey (William Dawson Boone, III) and wife Kathleen, daughter Laurie and husband Dana Fox, daughter Bethany and husband Frank Netek, son George and wife Shillon, youngest son Glenn, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family will miss him deeply.
Family will be receiving friends at Seaside Funeral Home on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. that same evening.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Internment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
