Abigail was the seventh of eight children, and the third and youngest daughter of Alvan and Mary (Bassett) Clark.
She married William Wallace Johnson on 24 Oct 1838 in Buckland, Massachusetts. Daughter Mary was born in 1841.
In May 1842, the family moved to Greenfield, Milwaukee (along with William's sister Marion and brother Edwin). She gave birth to five sons in Greenfield, Wisconsin:
Alvan (b. 1843), William Wallace II (b. 1844), Abner (b. 1846), Wesley (b. 1847) and Edward (b. 1849). Sadly, their only daughter, Mary Clark Johnson, died in 1850 at age nine.
Abigail was the artistic member of the family and was known for her work in pastels and watercolors.
Her son Alvan died from a tree cutting accident in Hart, Michigan in 1874. His widow gave up her three young sons and Abigail and her husband then raised their grandsons Alvan (b. 1867), Abner (b. 1869) and Arthur (b. 1872) to adulthood.
Predeceased by her grandson, Alvan Clark Johnson, age 3, in Jan. 1879.
