Mattie Crain Barton, 74, of Knoxville, stepped into glory on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. The fourth of seven children of John and Reba Vinson Crain, she was born October 3, 1936 in London.
She was a member of the 1954 graduating class of Arkadelphia High School and married the love of her life, Jerry Barton, on February 3, 1956 at London. Mattie worked at Crawford Elementary School as secretary for 30 years. Mattie was known for her delicious pies which warmed the hearts of family and many friends. She devoted much time and love in making cards to encourage the hearts of brothers and sisters in Christ. Fishing for crappie, bass, catfish and trout was a favorite pastime with Jerry and her sons. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Russellville where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters, Laura Geier, Iva Doran, Pattie McDermott, Macie Hare, and a brother, Johnny Crain.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Barton, Knoxville; 2 sons, Mark Barton and wife Pam, Mena, Alan Barton and wife Cindy, Mustang, OK; 4 grandchildren, Alisha Barton and her fiancÚ Michael, Hot Springs, Rachel Sandidge and husband Matt, College Station, TX, Cole Barton, Spokane, WA, Katie Gowin and husband John, Mustang, OK; a sister, Illa Jones and husband Jimmy, Hot Springs; sister-in-Law, Julia Rye, Russellville; brothers-in-law, David Barton and wife Sue, Russellville, AG Barton and wife Bettye, Dover, Ted Henry, Russellville; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 9, 2011 at First Assembly of God Church. Rev. Ronnie Morris and Rev. Mike Norberg will officiate. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Sunday, at the funeral home. Mattie's nephews will be her pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are members of the BJ Underhill Sunday School Class and past and present co-workers of the Russellville School District.
