Juanita Fern Bitner woke up in Heaven on October 10, 2011.
She was born on January 18, 1925 in Dallas, Texas to William E. Weaver and Bennie I Hicks. She married James Bitner on August 3, 1942 after graduating from Classen High School in Oklahoma City. She then proceeded to earn her B.S in Home Economics with honors from O.B.U.
In 1953 they both initiated 34 fulfilling and life changing years as career missionaries in Chile, South America. After retirement in 1987, she worked hand in hand with her husband training Spanish speaking leaders of Baptist churches in Venezuela, Chile and San Antonio, Texas. While health permitted, she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Yukon. She also volunteered as a teacher for several English as a second language courses. Fern's entire life was centered on lovingly serving God and others. We know that she is joyfully reunited with Jim, our father and her lifelong partner.
Fern and Jim's four children and spouses are: Jim, Jr. and wife Carolyn, Paul and wife Yoli, David, Debbie and husband Dr. Scott Brown. Their grandchildren are: Steve Bitner and wife Glenda, Dr. Catrina Bourne and husband Tim, and Parker and Paige Brown. They have three great-grandchildren: Maddie and James Bourne and Conner Bitner. A private interment will be held Friday, Oct. 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service to celebrate Fern's life will be held the same day at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Yukon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. and Mrs. James H. Bitner, Sr. Scholarship at Oklahoma Baptist University 500 W. University, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804.
