Birth: Feb. 5, 1877
Death: Oct. 3, 1956

Emerson D. Dunn, son of James Abner and Anna (Bateman) Dunn, was born on a farm near Derby, Lucas County, Iowa and passed from this life at his home in Arapaho, Custer County, OK. He and his family came to Oklahoma at the time of the opening of the Cheyenne-Arapaho lands, where he and his father made the "run" and homesteaded on land near what now is Stafford, Custer County, OK.

Mr. Dunn was married to Nellie Victoria Chapman on Aug. 29, 1900 in a double ceremony with his sister, Emma, and her brother, Avery, in the half-dugout home of his parents. During their first few years together, they lived in a dug-out on his own claim nearby. Later they moved to a home two miles east of Stafford, where they farmed and reared their children. For a few years they lived at Dill City, Washita County, OK, where he drove a school "hack" and sold Watkins products from a wagon. About 1930 he and his wife and two sons moved into Arapaho, where they lived with and cared for his widowed father. For many years he worked as a carpenter.

Mr. Dunn was a long-time member of the Methodist church, and served as Sunday School Superintendant of the First Methodist Church in Arapaho. His funeral service was held at the Arapaho Civic Center and he was laid to rest at the Stafford Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, four daughters: Gladys Snider and her husband, Thurston, Butler, OK; Mable Snider and her husband, Homer, Albuquerque, N.M.; Nellie Stocks and her husband, Guy, Clinton, OK; Viola Goss and her husband, Harry, Enid, OK; two sons; Leon and his wife, Hazel, Hillsboro,OR, and Walter and his wife, Wenona, Sayre, OK. Other survivors are: one brother, Bill, Clinton, OK, one sister, Lizzie Carmichael, Butler, Ok, and twenty grandchildren.
