Hays Burks Killed In Texas Smash-up
An unavoidable automobile accident, which occurred on the open highway near his home town of Crowell, Texas, claimed the life late last week of Hays Burks, one of the best-known and most respected young men of Covina.
The son of Mr & Mrs George A Burks of Second Street, Burks had been living in Texas during the past few weeks while working in the wheat fields near Crowell. He was riding with a friend when the accident occurred.
His father, mother, and brother, Tom, left Covina immediately after the crash to attend the funeral. He is also mourned by a sister, Mrs A H Campbell, formerly Miss Peggy Burks, who was unable to leave Covina.
Hays Burks was 23 years old, and came to Covina from Crowell in 1918. He attended school in this city and made his home here with his parents until he enlisted in the U S Navy a few years ago.
