Ralph was the fifth child of Charles Clinton Wallace and Fannie Clyde (Betts) Wallace. About 1915, Clint and Fannie moved their family from Ohio to Illinois in order to get their sons out of coal mining country, since two of Fannie's brothers had been killed in coal mining accidents.
Ralph met and married Harriet Mervane Polley in Moline, Illinois, in 1928. They had Virginia Mae Wallace (1929-2006) and three other daughters.
Ralph was a mechanical engineer and worked for Buda, Tucker Autos, Ford Aircraft Engine Div., and Andrew Corporation. During WWII, Ralph was involved in the top-secret design and production of the B-29 bomber. He retired in 1970.
In 1977, he and Mervane moved to a retirement community in Raymore, Missouri, where he lived until his death in 1981.
