|Death: ||Sep. 28, 1895|
James Henry Rowe, the son of James Rowe & Julia Williams Rowe, was born in England.
At a young age, he came with his parents and siblings to America, leaving from Falmouth (England) on May 27, 1845. The journey took almost 100 days. This trip went by way of Quebec, Canada (by sailing down the St. Lawrence River), then up through Montreal to Detroit, Michigan, then to Chicago, IL and finally to Elizabethtown, IL. Their journey from Chicago to Elizabethtown was made "with a four-horse team and wagon". Father James prospered in the mining industry. At some point, the family settled in Galena.
James Henry married Catharine Ivey on December 25, 1854. By this time he'd purchased a farm in Jo Daviess Co, IL. To this union came 8 children, 7 born in IL and the 8th born at Fort Benton, MT: Mary, Albert Henry (my husband's grandfather), William J. "Willie", Julia, Wearn, Charlie, Sarah Allie and Cressy.
In 1878, James and family "headed west to MT" by steamboat and settled at Fort Benton.
James died on September 28, 1895.
