Stephen Carey Ash 61, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, after being surrounded by his loving family in San Antonio, TX. Born in Cheverly, Maryland on June 4,1949, to Lois K. and Paul M. Ash, he is survived by his four children, David and Adam of San Antonio, TX; Christine Jaimez of Edinburg, TX; and Rebecca of Von Ormy, TX. He also is survived by his brother, Paul M. Ash II, his sister, Karen Reed, and eight grandchildren. Stephen attended high school at Frankfort H.S. in Frankfort, IN prior to obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ball State University. Before moving to Texas, he resided in Carmel, IN for nearly 15 years. An avid genealogist, historian, educator, entrepreneur, inventor, rancher, farmer, cowboy, friend, traveler and auctioneer, he shared his generous love for everyone, especially those closest to him. Through his passion for enriching his own knowledge, he was referred to as a "walking encyclopedia" sharing this knowledge with countless others as a school teacher for over 20 years. Stephen will most often be remembered for his righteousness, research and knowledge which led him ultimately to locate the battle site for the Battle of Medina near San Antonio. His unorthodox approach to humor and laughter touched many lives. The memories he created will be most remember by his children and granddaughter, Angela, for whom he remained unfettered in his love. "Guppy" will be forever missed and never forgotten. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, Indiana, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., Shelbyville, Indiana. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
