Deacon John Everett Foster ( in line of Moses, Moses,Jonathan, Caleb, Abraham, Reginald Foster who first came to America) Born on the 17th of May in 1824 in the brick house which his grandfather established back in 1787. Also where his father lived and where he lived himself till his death on 11 April in 1913. John was the son of Moses Foster and Fanny (Coggin) Foster of Milford, New Hampshire. He obtained a early education in Milford, at the Literary and Scientific Insitute at Hancock. Then he taught school in Amhurst, and in Illinois. At the age of 24 on the 15th of Febuary in 1848 he married Sophia Phelps Farley daughter of Jesse Farley and Mary Phelps of Hollis, New Hampshire and returned to farming but did some probate work for estates. He was born at the begining of the anti-slavery agitation and in a community that early espoused the cause of the liberation of slaves in the South, he became an active supporter of the cause as well as the temperance reform about the same time. Althought he was born of Bapist parentage he never joined the Church but in 1872 he was elected to the board of deacons of the Congregational Church and stayed faithful for the remainder of his life. John and Sophia were together for 55 years. At the time of death surviving him was two brothers Moses F. and Benjamin F. Foster. His wife Sophia and two children George E. and Flora S. Foster.
