A Fatal Runaway
Mrs. Tom Caywood, who lives in the northwest part of Scotland county, lost her life last Sunday evening in a runaway near the home of Thom Mathis in the Kilwinning neighborhood. Mrs. Caywood, in company with Mrs. Dr. Maynard, with their two children, started out for a buggy ride. While driving down the Mathis hill, something got the matter with the harness and the horse ran away. All the occupants of the vehicle were thrown out.
Mrs. Caywood received internal injuries from which she died in a few moments. Mrs. Maynard had an ankle badly sprained, while both of the children escaped unhurt.
It was a deplorable thing, and cast a gloom over the entire neighborhood.
This accident was two days after her birthday. Believed the Dr.'s wife fell on Mary Susan and probably the chest was crushed and a lung punctured.
