Carl Michlsen and family (which included Edward C Michelsen) Immigrated from Denmark to San Francisco in 1889 and Carl died about 1890. After Carl's death the family moved to Portland Oregon where Edward went to school through the 8th grade, but then he had to help support the family. From this point he was self educated and became a very well educated man.
Edward filed a first World War draft card in 1917 or 1918, but was exempt because he had a wife and 2 children, he also filed a World War II Draft card but never went to war because he may have been exempt because of his age, and the fact that he worked for the Rail Road, supporting the war effort by the shipment of war materials. Edward worked for the S.P.& S. Rail Road as Auditor of Dispersments in Portland OR for many years and retired at age 70.
After his wife's death Edward moved to Santa Clara California so he could live near his daughter Helen and son Richard. After his death he was brought back to Portland Oregon for Burial with his wife.
